A Scoping Review of School-Based Physical Activity and Health Eating/Nutrition Interventions
Keywords:
physical activities, nutrition, review, educationAbstract
This article presents a scoping review of school-based interventions designed to promote and develop physical activity and/or healthy eating/nutrition. Using three common electronic databases for education, physical education, and health education research literature (ERIC, ProQuest, & SPORTDiscus), a search was conducted for peer-reviewed publications between 2000 and 2015. A total of 39 studies met the search criteria for this scoping review and were consequently subject to a more-detailed examination. Nineteen of these were related to physical activity (PA), 14 were related to healthy eating/nutrition (HEN), and six were related to physical activity and healthy eating/nutrition. Results from this scoping review will inform researchers, curriculum developers, and teachers engaged in program development and implementation related to physical activity and/or healthy eating/nutrition in the school setting.
